Working under the guidance of the Physiotherapist, the PTA will conduct home visits, facilitate the prescribed exercise program, and reinforce education related to pain self-management, fall prevention, and incorporating functional exercises into daily activities. The PTA will work approximately 4–8 hours per week on average, with some fluctuations over the study period, and training will be provided.
About the Study
The Stronger at Home study aims to evaluate whether a patient-centred, home-based physiotherapy program can help community-dwelling older adults recover faster and improve functional outcomes after hip fracture. The program will be delivered by a team of physiotherapists and physiotherapist assistants in participants’ homes and will include exercise, support with pain self-management, and education. Participants will receive the 14-week intervention and be followed for up to 12 months after hospital discharge.
Key Responsibilities
• During the intervention period, the PTA will visit participants’ homes with the Physiotherapist and conduct additional independent visits every other week.
• The PTA will facilitate and progress the exercise program as prescribed by the Physiotherapist, in accordance with the study protocol.
• The PTA will help reinforce the education component, including pain physiology education, fall prevention, and incorporating functional exercises into daily life activities.
Other Details
• Approximately 4–8 hours of work per week on average, with expected fluctuations in time commitment over the study period.
• Home visits will take place in Brockville and surrounding areas.
• The PTA will work under the guidance of the Physiotherapist and in collaboration with the study team.
• Training will be provided for the selected candidate.
• Expected start date: late fall 2026, negotiable.
• The study is expected to remain active for approximately 2–3 more years.

• Organized, flexible, and available to work on short notice.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a team.
• Previous research experience, particularly with older adult participants, is an asset.
• A PTA/OTA diploma, a degree in kinesiology, or a similar healthcare background is an asset.
• Willingness to learn new skills as required.
