The Cook 1 is an experienced member of the Culinary team responsible for preparing and presenting high-quality food while consistently maintaining the hotel’s standards for quality, presentation, cleanliness, and food safety. This position supports the day-to-day operation of the kitchen and works collaboratively with culinary colleagues to deliver exceptional dining experiences for our guests.

What you will be doing:
- Prepare, cook, and present menu items according to established recipes, portion standards, and presentation guidelines.
- Set up and maintain assigned workstations, ensuring all required ingredients and equipment are ready for service.
- Maintain consistent food quality, taste, temperature, and presentation throughout service.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of cooking techniques, ingredients, kitchen equipment, and culinary procedures.
- Support the Sous Chef and Chef de Cuisine with the daily operation of the kitchen.
- Assist with the preparation and execution of special events, functions, and high-volume services as required.
- Monitor product quality, freshness, and proper storage while following FIFO procedures.
- Minimize food waste through proper preparation, portioning, storage, and handling practices.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, hygiene, and workplace health and safety standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation throughout the shift.
- Communicate effectively with Culinary and Food & Beverage colleagues to ensure efficient and timely service.
- Provide guidance and support to junior culinary colleagues when required.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
- Participate in training, meetings, and other departmental initiatives as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Culinary leadership.
- Uphold Five Diamond, Forbes Five-Star, and brand service standards in all aspects of food preparation and presentation
Qualifications
Your experience and skills include:
- Previous professional culinary experience, preferably within a luxury hotel, restaurant, or high-volume environment.
- Culinary education or recognized culinary certification is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking methods, and kitchen operations.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation requirements.
- Ability to work efficiently and maintain high standards in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including standing for extended periods and lifting or carrying items as required.

You will be part of a collaborative and high-performing Culinary team that supports some of the hotel’s most important events. The team values teamwork, precision, and pride in execution, working closely with Banquet Operations and Stewarding to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
