Uncertified Operator
Competition Number: 2026-43
This position reports directly to the Waterworks Managers and offers an opportunity to build a long-term career in the City's Water and Wastewater Department.
Previous water or wastewater experience is not required. The City will provide hands-on training and mentorship to help you develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a qualified Water and Wastewater Treatment Operator.
You will work alongside experienced operators and gradually take on more responsibility as your skills develop. We are looking for motivated, reliable individuals who are willing to learn and grow.
What You’ll Learn and Do
You’ll work alongside certified operators and managers to learn the daily operation and maintenance of the City’s Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants. Your responsibilities will grow as your skills grow, including:
Training and responsibilities will increase as the successful candidate develops the required knowledge, skills, and competencies.
The successful candidate must be willing and able to work rotational, non-standard hours, including shift work, nights, evenings, and weekends, as well as stand-by and callouts.
Experience
The position includes physical demands, including but not limited to: a large number of stairs, tank cleaning, and the use of a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

This position is designed to provide you with the training and hands-on experience needed to develop into a skilled operator. If you are dependable, motivated, safety-focused, and willing to learn, the City of Yorkton will provide the training and support to help you build your career in water and wastewater treatment.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., with rotating weekend and on-call shifts.
Hourly Range:$26.54 - $49.44 in accordance with CUPE Local #342 collective agreement and applicants’ qualification.
