This is a Temporary Full-Time position for 6 months (new position!)

Job Description

An exciting Temporary Full-Time opportunity as Billing Clerk exists in the Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) which includes the Women’s College Hospital Academic Family Health Team (WCHAFHT), which is one of the largest Family Practice Units within the University of Toronto with over 40 Staff Physicians, 30 Residents and Fellows, and associated Healthcare Professionals and Support Staff. This position reports to the Department Head for Primary Care. Under the supervision of the Lead Billing Coordinator, the Billing Clerk supports the Family and Community Medicine Finance Business Office.

What You’ll Do:

  • Input billing data into TELUS PS Suite billing database
  • Invoicing patients and follow up of invoice payment status
  • Create claim submission files and submit to the MOH via MCEDT on a twice-weekly basis
  • Third-party billing knowledge, specifically in OHIP, WSIB, IFH, and UHIP
  • Process adjustments and refunds when necessary
  • Analyze accounts at the time of application for any missing information. Report discrepancies to the Billing Coordinator, or Physician Financial Administrator, and contact the Physician or clinic to resolve the discrepancy
  • Assist with month-end closing
  • Assist with error reports on a monthly basis
  • Reconcile billing remittances against claims monthly
  • Maintain regulations and standards affecting patient confidentiality
  • Assist with ongoing OHIP billing training and technical support to new and existing Secretaries
  • Assist with requests and inquiries from physicians, patients and the public at the business office window in a courteous and respectful manner

What You’ll need:

  • Completion of a College Diploma
  • Minimum 1-2 years of OHIP billing experience
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a Family Health Organization (FHO) Physician’s office or similar health care setting would be an asset
  • Familiarity with a variety of electronic billing programs, MOHLTC billing policies, procedures, and third-party billing (WSIB, IFH, UHIP, Insurance)
  • Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple time sensitive service requirements
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office 365, and Telus PS Suite
  • Excellent independent problem-solving skills.
