Position Overview

The Line Cook is responsible for the preparation of high-quality food in a timely, efficient, sanitary, and consistent manner. Assists with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of station, kitchen, walk-in coolers, and all storage areas. Required to follow all Provincial and Local food handling, and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the daily preparation of food items in the pantry, fry and/or stations or other areas of the kitchen.
• Sets up station according to restaurant guidelines.
• Prepares all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner.
• Follows recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the restaurant.
• Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances.
• Assists with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of station, kitchen, walk-in coolers, and all storage areas.
• Restocks all items as needed throughout shift.
• Ensures quality and safety of food by performing standard and any additional sanitary measures including sweeping of the floors, cleaning of surfaces, as well as proper covering and storage of food items according to standards and procedures
• Disposes spoiled food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other unusual condition.
• Performs other related tasks and projects as assigned, which are in accordance with job responsibilities or necessary department and corporate objectives.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Ontario Health and Safety Act and Regulations and the Corporate Health & Safety policy and related procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

• Successful completion of High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience as a line cook.
• Currently hold and maintain a valid Food Handling Certification.
• Highly effective teamwork skills.
• Strong attention to detail in all areas of work.
• Superior time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
• Effective communication skills coupled with strong problem identification and problem resolution.
• Ability to work at an efficient and consistent pace.
• Strong understanding and knowledge to properly use and maintain all equipment in station.
• Demonstrated knowledge of food and catering trends, quality, production, sanitation and presentation required.
• Knowledge of methods and procedures for serving food, principles of sanitation, and principles of safe food handling required
• Excellent safety, sanitation, and organizational skills.
• Must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment, while maintaining the organizational ability to identify and act on job duties quickly and effectively.
• Must be prepared to work as a team member in a dynamic workplace, follow all safety procedures, and have a high threshold for heat in a kitchen environment.
• Ability to work flexible hours (evenings and weekends).
• Successful candidate(s) will be required to submit a current, clear Criminal Record Check from an accredited police service prior to employment.
