Job Description:

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Manager, Core Trade Finance Operations, with deep expertise in international trade finance and a demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams within a complex, highly regulated operating environment. The successful candidate will bring comprehensive knowledge of Documentary Letters of Credit, Documentary Collections, Standby Letters of Credit and Guarantees, with a strong understanding of the operational requirements supporting core trade finance activities

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Global Trade Finance Operations, the Senior Manager will lead the execution and performance of Core Trade Finance Operations across regional processing teams. This leader will oversee a high-performing organization through several Regional Managers, ensuring consistent operational delivery, effective risk management, strong controls, and an exceptional client experience across geographies and time zones.

The Senior Manager will work closely with Business and Front Office leadership to understand business priorities, enable growth, resolve operational matters, and ensure that the operating model effectively supports client and business needs. The role will establish strong partnerships with Product, Compliance, AML, Legal, Risk Management, Technology, and other Operations teams to deliver sustainable and controlled outcomes.

The successful candidate will provide clear operational leadership across the Core Trade Finance portfolio, establishing accountability for service delivery, productivity, quality, risk management, and client outcomes. The Senior Manager will ensure that regional teams operate as an integrated organization, leveraging standardized processes, effective governance, appropriate resource deployment, and strong collaboration across locations. 

Operational excellence and continuous improvement are central to the mandate. The Senior Manager will identify opportunities to simplify and optimize processes, improve turnaround times, strengthen controls, and increase operational efficiency. The role will lead the implementation and adoption of process and technology enhancements, partnering with the AVP and relevant stakeholders to ensure changes are effectively delivered and embedded within the organization.

The Senior Manager will also serve as a senior operational escalation point for complex transactions, client matters, risk issues, and service challenges. With strong technical expertise and sound judgment, the incumbent will provide guidance to Regional Managers and their teams, ensuring decisions are aligned with applicable policies, regulatory requirements, risk appetite, and business objectives.

As a people leader, the Senior Manager will build and develop a strong leadership bench through the Regional Managers, establish clear expectations and accountability, and foster a culture of collaboration, ownership, continuous improvement, and client focus.

Key Responsibilities and Capabilities

• Lead the execution and ongoing performance of the Core Trade Finance Operations operating model across regional processing teams. 

• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing organization through several Regional Managers, ensuring effective leadership, accountability, succession planning, and talent developments

• Establish strong and trusted partnerships with Business, Front Office, Product, Technology, Compliance, AML, Legal, Risk, and Global Operations to support business priorities and deliver consistent client outcomes.

• Serve as a key operational partner to Business and Front Office, providing advice on operational capabilities, transaction execution, service requirements, capacity, and risk considerations.

• Provide operational oversight across Documentary Letters of Credit, Documentary Collections,  Standby Letters of Credit, Guarantees, and related Core Trade Finance activities.

• Establish clear performance expectations and management routines across Regional Managers and processing teams, ensuring consistent execution across locations and time zones.

• Drive effective governance, escalation, and communication forums to enable transparent decision-making, proactive issue management, and timely resolution of operational and client matters. 

• Monitor and manage operational performance through relevant KPIs, service metrics, productivity measures, quality indicators, risk metrics, and client outcomes. 

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, reduce operational risk, improve turnaround times, and strengthen service quality. 

• Identify opportunities to standardize processes across regions while maintaining appropriate flexibility for local regulatory, market, and client requirements. 

• Lead the operational implementation and adoption of new products, processes, technology, and business initiatives in partnership with Business, Product, Technology, and the broader Operations organization. 

• Provide operational leadership and subject matter expertise on complex, high-value, and/or high-risk transactions, partnering with Business and Product teams to deliver within established risk appetite. 

• Ensure adherence to applicable regulations, internal policies, procedures, and control standards, escalating issues appropriately and driving timely remediation. 

• Maintain strong operational controls and ensure that risks are proactively identified, assessed, managed, and escalated. 

• Partner with the AVP on the ongoing evolution of the Trade Finance operating model, including opportunities for automation, digitization, regional optimization, and enhanced straight-through processing. 

• Support the development and implementation of training and enablement programs to strengthen technical expertise, leadership capability, and control awareness across the organization. 

• Develop and maintain strong technical capabilities within the organization, ensuring teams remain current with industry practices, regulatory developments, products, systems, and emerging technologies. 

• Lead organizational change effectively, ensuring that teams understand the rationale, expectations, and impacts of significant changes and that new processes are sustainably embedded. 

• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement, and client focus. 

• Mentor and develop Regional Managers and high-potential talent, strengthening the leadership pipeline and succession planning for Core Trade Finance Operations.

Qualifications 

• Minimum of 15 years of experience in Trade Finance Operations, with significant experience leading complex operational teams. 

• In-depth knowledge of Documentary Letters of Credit, Documentary Collections, Standby Letters of Credit, and Guarantees. 

• Strong understanding of international trade finance rules, regulations, industry practices, and operational risk requirements. 

• Strong knowledge of AML, Sanctions, Anti-Boycott requirements, compliance, and internal control frameworks applicable to Trade Finance. 

• Demonstrated experience leading through multiple levels of management, with a proven track record of building and developing high-performing teams. 

• Strong Business and Front Office partnership skills, with the ability to understand commercial priorities and translate them into effective operational execution. 

• Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively across a complex organization. 

• Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, navigate organizational complexity, and drive timely decisions and outcomes. 

• Experience developing and implementing operational strategies to improve service, efficiency, controls, and business outcomes. 

• Proven experience in process optimization, operational transformation, and change management. 

• Strong judgment and ability to provide operational guidance on complex transactions and issues. 

• Demonstrated ability to identify operational risks, assess impacts, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies. 

• Experience implementing and adopting new technologies and processes within an existing operational environment. 

• Ability to use data, metrics, and performance insights to drive operational decisions and continuous improvement. 

• GCI Trade 360 platform experience would be an asset. 

Shared Responsibilities 

• Partner with Business, Front Office, Product, Technology, Compliance, AML, Legal, Risk, and institutional clients to effectively deliver the Core Trade Finance mandate. 

• Partner with the Global Operations leadership team to ensure appropriate governance, risk, and control frameworks are established and managed effectively. 

• Partner with the AVP, Global Trade Finance Operations, to ensure regional execution remains aligned to the broader global operating model and transformation strategy. 

• Work collaboratively across regional Operations teams to promote consistency, knowledge sharing, capacity flexibility, and a common client and service culture. 

Education / Experience 

• University degree or equivalent work experience. 

• Certificate for Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS) would be an asset. 

• Certificate for Specialist in Demand Guarantees (CSDG) would be an asset. 

• Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (ACAMS) would be an asset.
