Job Description:

Department Overview:

The Legal Department at TD Bank Group is comprised of corporate/commercial and litigation lawyers with varying areas of expertise tailored to meet the legal needs of the various business units of TD Bank Group. The Legal Department is committed to delivering to its internal business clients the highest level of expertise, service, responsiveness, and flexibility. Our lawyers identify emerging client opportunities, provide prompt and informed legal advice, and produce tangible results that implement creative solutions.

Job Accountabilities:

As Legal Assistant, you will provide legal and administrative support to the members of the Wealth and Insurance Legal Team. Your work will involve a range of complexity, and may include the following accountabilities: 

  • Manage incoming enquiries and requests for information promptly and professionally, responding independently where appropriate or redirecting matters to the appropriate person or area.

  • Support lawyers on projects, initiatives and day-to-day legal operations.

  • Prepare, edit and format a broad range of legal documents, including correspondence.

  • Establish, maintain, organize and update physical and electronic legal files, diary systems and bring-forward reminders to support effective file management.

  • Use software, departmental tools and office technology effectively to support efficient legal and administrative processes.

  • Prioritize and manage workflow to ensure quality and efficiency, meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Identify and recommend processes improvements that contribute to team effectiveness.

  • Consistently exercise discretion when handling confidential information, correspondence and matters, escalating issues where appropriate.

  • Administrative duties including copying, scanning, billing, mail, scheduling meetings, conducting searches, organizing presentations, ordering supplies and submitting expense reports.

Specific Educational Requirements / Accreditations:

  • High school diploma required

  • Legal Assistant, Law Clerk or Paralegal diploma considered an asset.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

  • 3+ years of administrative or executive assistant experience in a legal environment, either in-house or at a law firm.

  • Strong ability to proofread, edit and format legal documents and correspondence with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard legal office technology, including document and matter management tools.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work independently, take initiative and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Collaborative, flexible and service-oriented team player who is willing to work cooperatively with other staff members to support departmental priorities, as needed.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.
