As a Senior Observability Architect, you will help product and platform teams across Digital & Information Technology (D&IT) improve the visibility, reliability, and performance of their applications and systems. Working within a collaborative DevOps team, you will lead the development and adoption of observability practices, helping teams gain meaningful insights through monitoring, logging,tracing,alerting, and telemetry. This role combines technicalexpertise, coaching, and hands-on implementation to enable data-driven operational decision-making and support continuous improvement across the organization.

MinimumRequirements:

  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, or similar platforms

  • University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, with 8+ years of relevant experience

  • Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, alerting, telemetry, and system performance concepts

  • Experience supporting DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation initiatives

  • Knowledge of cloud environments such as Azure and/or AWS

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and advance observability strategies, frameworks, and best practices across applications, platforms, and value streams

  • Define andestablishperformance metrics and operational indicators that align with business outcomes

  • Developfoundationalstandards, templates, and reference materials to improve consistency and adoption

  • Champion,facilitateandadvisethe development of observability strategy for individual teams within D&IT

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve system reliability, operational awareness, and service performance across the organization

  • Partner with product and platform teams to implement effective monitoring, logging, alerting, and telemetry solutions

  • Support the evolution of observability capabilities through automation, analytics, and emergingAiOps/Machine Learningdriven practices

Location and other Key Details:

  • This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office,locatedin the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W

  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday with occasional site visits

  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band willgenerally bebased on years of experience and scope of work
