Job Description:

The Salvation Army Community-Based Residential Facility (CRF) is a federal half-way house and its clientele work on a system of gradual, supervised release while they reside at the facility. The CRF’s priority is to assist and empower parolees - while managing their risk - to integrate them into the community and assist them in becoming self-sufficient and independent.

Keeping in line with core philosophies of Hope, Service, Dignity and Stewardship of The Salvation Army and under the direction of CRF Manager and Assistant CRF Manager, Community Corrections Support Worker will act as a member of the CRF team, exchanging information to the case management team, assisting residents with their needs, and ensuring that the facility’s rounds, curfews, and check-ins are completed according to CRF policy.

Location: Victoria Addictions & Rehabilitation Centre

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must develop an intimate working knowledge of Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) Statement of Work, CRF Policy and Procedure manual, and in-house CRF rules, with all actions based on strict adherence to policy.

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of all CRF and ARC clientele.

  • Receivesallclientsandresidentsinaprofessionalmanner.

  • MonitorsaccesstoandsecurityoftheCRF/ARC.

  • Maintainsacalmandsecureatmosphereintheresidencethroughaquiet,unobtrusivepresence.

  • Conductsregular roundsoftheCRF/ARCasdescribedintheCRFguidelinesandpoliciesandProcedures.

  • ConductsCRFbedchecksasperCRFguidelinesandPoliciesandProcedures.

  • Conducts andmonitorsthe sign in and out sheets belonging to each CRF resident.

  • Records pertinent information in the CRF duty log and Case Administration Management System (CAMS).

  • Communicateswith Victoria Parole, National Monitoring Centre (NMC), and Victoria Police as necessary and document situations and incidents.

  • Enforces CRF in-house rules and parole conditions, according to the Policy and Procedures manual and the Statement of Work.

  • ProperlyfilesallCRF/CSCdocumentsinaccordancewithPolicy&Procedures.

  • Maintainingan accuratemedication access log. The medication access log must include theclientsname,dateandtimewhich he/she accessed their medication,clientand staff initials.

  • RecordsobservedmaintenanceneedsinaccordancewiththeARCprocedures.

  • Ensures that the Intake office is clean and organized to ARC standards.

  • Attends all CRF staff meetings, seminars, and training as directed.

  • ProvidetransportationatthedirectionoftheCRFDirector/Designate.

  • Performslightjanitorialdutieswhenrequired(i.e.roompackouts/cleaning)

  • May be assigned other related duties according to the CRF’s needs.

  • Must be prepared toparticipatein upgrading/training at the discretion of CRF Management.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Must possessHigh School Completion Diplomaor its equivalent/post secondary courses in criminology, sociology or related filed are preferred

  • OFA First Aid Level 1/CPR CertificateRequired

  • Negative TB test Required

  • Completion of ARC Mandatory Training, especially ARMATUS abuse training and WHIMS 2015 Health & Safety Training 

  • Must pass/possessclear Criminal Records Check 

  • Must obtain enhanced reliability screening from Correctional Services Canada

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Musthave minimum 6 months related experience

  • Must be able to follow both verbal and written instructions

  • Must work co-operatively with others and complete to a satisfactory level for all assigned tasks

  • Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army-its mission, culture, and values

  • Ability toestablishand maintain rapport with clients

  • Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations

  • Ability to work with a diverse clientelepossessinga range of needs and barriers

  • Ability to discern baselinebehaviorsand any deviations concerning substance use or mental health

  • Mustpossessadequatetypingskillsandbecomputerliterate.

  • Must have strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be confident in ability toutilizede-escalation techniques and non-violent crisis intervention skills. 

  • Must be punctual,organizedand able to adjust to operational demands.

  • MustbepresentableinappearanceinaccordancewithARCstandards.

  • Mustpossessorwillingtoobtainwithinthirty(30)daysand/ormaintainanactivevalidFirstAid/C.P.R.certificate.

  • MustprovideverificationofaTBskintestorobtainonewithinthirty(30)daysfromdateofhire.

  • MustpossessaClass5driver’s license andabletoobtainadriver’s abstract.

  • Musthavetheabilitytounderstandandbesensitivetoculturaldifferences.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $26.95 to $27.45 with a maximum of $27.95.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
