Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for standard general warehouse duties of receiving, sorting, putting away, picking, and shipping of various donations, primarily goods for a great cause. Regular power equipment use may be required as well as some manual work and use of computer systems. The role contributes to the broader mission and values of The Salvation Army, upholding standards of service that reflect its spiritual and social commitment to the community.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Incumbents may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below.
• Perform general cleaning, maintenance, and organization of the warehouse, yard, and equipment.
• Load and unload trucks using manual and powered material handling equipment (MHE); inspect all equipment before use.
• Receive and inspect goods for damage, expiry, and accuracy; document, rotate, and store items to ensure proper stock management.
• Build and prepare skids with fresh, frozen, or dry goods for delivery based on distribution needs.
• Use inventory or warehouse management systems to track stock movement and assist with inventory reconciliation as directed.
• Replenish and store materials safely, using reach trucks in narrow aisle settings when required.
• Support shipping, receiving, and order release tasks while following all safety and operational procedures.
• Represent the organization in a respectful and professional manner, reflecting the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
• Other related duties as assigned.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Internal: Ministry Unit leadership, staff, and volunteers.
External: donors, vendors, contractors, clients of ministry unit in person.
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the Distribution Manager.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
• Expected to exercise sound judgment in the use of organizational and personal resources. Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines
• Considerable material responsibilities – safe material handling and picking up/delivering donations.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• This is a permanent full-time position.
• Work is typically performed in a warehouse environment with exposure to handling garbage, monotony of work (repetitive tasks), various odours.
• Work may involve working in freezers and refrigerators with some outdoor work in winter.
• The work requires frequent amount of standing, walking, bending, repetitive lifting, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
• Completion of some High School.
• Current Forklift Operators Certificate may be required.
Experience and Knowledge Requirements:
• Up to 6 months of related experience.
• An alternative level or combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
Skills and Capabilities:
• Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
• Ability to exercise care and responsibility in handling Salvation Army property and assets.
• Good organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
• Self-directed, reliable, and able to take initiative with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Demonstrated patience, understanding, and professionalism in all interactions.
• High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism, with sound judgment and balanced flexibility.
•Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $25.72 to $25.72 with a maximum of $25.72.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
