Rehabilitation Assistant to Occupational Therapist

SAGKEENG CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (SCFS) is looking for a FULL-TIME Occupational Therapist Assistant to support our Occupational Therapists in delivering therapy services to children and youth. Working under the supervision and direction of the Occupational Therapist, the successful candidate will assist in the implementation of treatment plans, support therapy activities, monitor client progress, and provide administrative and clinical support to enhance service delivery.

Requirements:

• Successful completion of a recognized academic Rehabilitation Assistant (RA) program with a practicum component, or an accredited Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA)/Physiotherapist Assistant (PTA) program.
• Certification in an approved Rehabilitation Assistant Certificate program required.

• Minimum one (1) year previous experience working as an Occupational Therapist assistant.
• Equivalent combinations of educational experience and relevant work experience may be considered.
• Experience working in an Indigenous organization or with Indigenous communities is a strong asset.
• An understanding and awareness of the strengths and challenges of Indigenous children, youth, families and communities.
• Demonstrated intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point, SharePoint, Teams) and online tools.
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while following professional direction and supervision.
• Commitment to positive workplace communication and adherence to professional boundaries.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous life-long learning.
• Flexible work schedule (able to work evenings).
• Travel is required.

Responsibilities:

• Implement treatment plans and therapeutic activities as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
• Assist clients in developing functional, sensory, motor, self-care, and daily living skills.
• Observe, monitor, and accurately document client participation, progress, and responses to interventions.
• Prepare and organize therapy materials, equipment, and treatment spaces.
• Support the Occupational Therapist during assessments, interventions, and community-based programming.
• Maintain reports, and documentation in accordance with agency standards and privacy requirements.
• Assist with scheduling appointments and coordinating services with families, care providers, schools, and community partners.
• Provide education and support to parents, care providers and other support persons as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
• Promote culturally safe and trauma-informed services.
• Document and report observations and concerns to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
• Coordinate appointments, scheduling, and follow-up communications with families.
• Work collaboratively with the Occupational Therapist and multidisciplinary team members.
• Participate in case discussions, team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
• Promote positive and respectful relationships with children, families, schools, and community partners.
• Support culturally safe and family-centered service delivery practices.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
