We’re looking for our next Principal Front-end Engineer. Could It Be You?

ThePrincipal Front-end Engineeris a hands-on technical leader who will define and drive the future of user interface development at Questrade. You will be responsible for leading the architectural design and development of our next-generation front-end applications, with a primary focus on React Native for mobile and a strong secondary expertise in Angular for web platforms. As a foremost expert in front-end technologies, you will mentor a talented team, champion innovation, and ensure our applications deliver a seamless, high-performance, and world-class user experience. • Technical Vision & Strategy:Define and drive the long-term technical vision and strategy for our front-end applications (both mobile and web), aligning with business goals and industry trends.
• Architecture & Design:Lead the architectural design and development of complex, high-performance front-end applications using React Native and Angular. Make critical decisions on technology, frameworks, and patterns to ensure scalability and maintainability.
• Leadership & Mentorship:Act as a technical mentor and force-multiplier for the front-end engineering team. Coach senior and intermediate engineers, foster a culture of technical excellence, and lead by example through hands-on code contributions.
• Performance & Streaming Optimization:Lead efforts to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across our front-end platforms. Architect robust solutions for handling high-frequency, real-time data streaming to ensure a responsive user experience on our trading applications.
• Best Practices & Quality:Establish and govern front-end engineering best practices, including code quality, component libraries, state management, testing strategies, CI/CD, and cross-platform development.
• Innovation & Research:Spearhead research, prototyping, and the adoption of new front-end technologies and frameworks to solve business problems and keep our platform modern and competitive.
• AI Adoption & Innovation:Champion the exploration and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and technologies to enhance developer productivity and improve application features. Support the adoption of AI best practices within the engineering squads.
• Cross-functional Collaboration:Collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, architects, and other engineering leaders to influence the product roadmap and ensure seamless integration across our platform.
• Problem Solving: Tackle the most complex technical challenges in the front-end domain, including performance, cross-platform compatibility, and state management at scale.

• Experience:8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a significant focus on front-end development and a proven track record of shipping successful, large-scale web and mobile applications.

• Primary Skill (React Native):Expert-level knowledge and hands-on mastery of JavaScript/TypeScript and the React Native ecosystem. Deep understanding of React Native's internal workings and performance characteristics.

• Secondary Skill (Angular):Strong, hands-on experience with modern web development using Angular. Proven ability to build and maintain complex single-page applications.

• Nice to Have (NodeJS):Experience with or an understanding of back-end development using NodeJS is considered a strong asset.

• Architectural Leadership:Demonstrated experience designing, building, and scaling complex, high-traffic front-end applications. Strong knowledge of front-end architecture patterns, data storage solutions, and system design principles.

• Performance & Streaming Expertise:Proven experience in optimizing front-end application performance (web and mobile), including memory profiling, bundle size reduction, and render optimizations. Deep understanding of real-time data streaming technologies (e.g., WebSockets).

• Technical Leadership:Proven experience in a technical leadership or mentorship capacity. Ability to guide technical discussions, influence peers, and make pragmatic, long-term decisions.

• Ecosystem Knowledge:In-depth experience with state management libraries (e.g., Redux, NgRx), RESTful APIs, and front-end build tools and CI/CD practices.

• Analytical Skills:Possesses exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities to tackle the most complex technical challenges.

• Communication & Influence:Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and influence technical direction.

• Ownership & Mindset:Demonstrates a strong sense of ownership, a pragmatic, results-oriented mindset, and accountability for outcomes.

• Passion for Innovation: A genuine passion for continuous learning, staying current with industry trends, and driving innovation within the team.
  
  

  Compensation Information:

  • Base salary range: $130,000 - $170,000

  • The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada). It includes a comprehensive benefits plan and a competitive incentive (bonus) program for Full-Time Permanent roles.
