Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Coordinator will be responsible for managing and implementing a range of research projects related to Infant Feeding & Development Research and will also provide operational support to the Infant Neurodevelopment, Feeding Advances, And New Technologies Research Program. The incumbent will participate throughout the research process, facilitating contracts between the PI and partners, creating and managing project budgets, implementing and monitoring research projects, including participant recruitment, data collection, assisting with disseminating results (contribute to reports, publications and scientific presentations). The incumbent will liaise and network with collaborators.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Implement, and monitor the Principal Investigator’s research projects.
• Participate in dissemination of research project findings in the form of manuscript or presentation, or written reports and support knowledge translation strategy and activities. Develop, prepare and maintain resource materials (products of the research).
• Prepare, submit and renew Research Ethics Board (REB) applications.
• Develop project budgets and be responsible for monitoring and reporting, as per funder/institution guidelines, and in coordination with the Research Grants and Financial Officer of the School of Rehabilitation Therapy.
• Supervise research assistants, casual staff and graduate students. Guide, advise, and lead employees. Delegate tasks and determine priorities as necessary.
• Collaborate with other units at the University to ensure all aspects of project management appropriately taken care of (i.e. University Research Services, and Financial Services).
• Design and oversee the development of interview protocols.
• Conduct and coordinate recruitment, data collection, and management of quantitative and qualitative research.
• Lead project coordination and administration, including developing and maintaining detailed project timelines, task sets, resources and activities; planning and coordinating workflows and implementing them among the team; monitoring for compliance, and making recommendations for changes to the PI.
• Maintain communication within the research teams to support progress along the project management timeline.
• Liaise and communicate with other staff, units and outside collaborators to stay aware of developments and foster collaborative research.
• Reference management using EndNote.
• Organize, maintain, and store research files using confidential and secure methods.
• Generate statistical analyses, analyze data and interpret results, including use of complex computer programs.
• Use judgement and personal initiative to adapt procedures, as required, to meet the needs of the project and to research on a fairly independent basis, and report any changes to PI.
• Collect, store, and analyze data using independent judgement to adapt procedures as the need arises, maintaining research protocols and procedures, performing independent work with participants, and developing datasets for analysis by investigators and trainees.
• Assess and recruit human participants for research studies, conduct follow-ups, and participate in participant education, as required.
• Prepare regular project reports and support preparation of new project proposals.
• Support research communications, both for the PI and the I.N.F.A.N.T Research Program, including updating websites; sharing stories of the research with the community; and posting on social media
• Support operations of I.N.F.A.N.T Research Program, including scheduling and taking minutes at meetings. Track and prepare reports, on all research activities, such as ongoing projects, grants, presentations, publications and trainees. Provide regular updates at team meetings. Prepare visual and verbal presentations and participate in research team meetings.
• Support preparation of quarterly and annual reports to funding agencies, and grant applications, including writing, revision and submission.
• Act as primary contact and resource person, only escalating complex situations to the PI.
• Provide work directions, and technical/functional guidance to staff. Schedule and assign work and oversee its completion. Coordinate and monitor workflow.
• Reviews assignments and provides feedback on work to employees. Provides input on work performance to management staff.
• Provides orientation and on-the-job training to employees in the unit. Provides coaching and feedback on work quality issues, providing related day-to-day supervision. Escalates unresolved performance and/or disciplinary matters to management.
• Participate in screening and interviewing job candidates and provide input into staff selection.
• Undertake other duties as assigned in support of the PI.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• University degree in a relevant field combined with several years (5+ minimum) of relevant research and/or coordination experience. Master’s degree considered an asset.
• Several years (5+ minimum) of relevant field experience in pediatrics (experience in the neonatal intensive care unit is an asset).
• Experience conducting quantitative and qualitative research and data analysis.
• Previous experience with Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of Microsoft Teams is required.
• Experience with research administration specific software and platforms (i.e., Redcap, CAYUSE, CCV etc.).
• Experience administering research budgets is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated successful and progressive experience in project coordination or management in a fast-paced research environment.
• Fluency in French is considered an asset.
• Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Presentation skills for academic national and international meetings and conferences.
• Organizational and planning skills to coordinate the activities and various projects.
• Analytical, interpretive, and problem-solving skills with the ability to solve unexpected problems as they arise, referring only extremely complex problems to supervisor.
• Knowledge of university procedures, policies, regulations, and administrative systems.
• Ability to perform accounting and financial management duties, including ability to analyze and present financial data.
• Supervisory and leadership skills to provide work direction, instruction, functional guidance and training to students and junior staff.

DECISION MAKING:
• Make recommendations for the I.N.F.A.N.T. research program, determining the best approach for implementation to ensure research goals and objectives are met.
• Work independently within guidelines provided by the Principal Investigator.
• Determine best solution to administrative problems within guidelines and determine if policy or procedure should be modified. Decide on how to best implement changes, if necessary.
• Answer questions regarding research projects, or redirect inquiries, if necessary. Make recommendations on research questions and suggest appropriate techniques or protocols.
• Determine best way to analyze and present data to meet the needs of the research project.
• Determine whether a particular procedure falls well within ethical guidelines, and whether any other concessions could be made to minimize inconvenience to research participants.
• Resolve problems as they arise and determine when to report on these actions to the Principal Investigator.
• Decide what to do when encountering an unexpected problem and when problem is serious enough to contact the PI.
• Support the work of other staff and students based on research activity schedule.
• Make suggestions on data collection, presentation of results and coordination of activities.
• In consultation with the Principal Investigator, determine layout, content and formatting of documentation.
• Participate in screening and interviewing casual Work Study students or other casual candidates and provide input into casual employee selection.
• Provide work direction, and technical/functional guidance to casual work study students or other casual employees. Schedule and assign work and oversee its completion. Coordinate and monitor workflow.
• Review assignment and provide feedback on work to casual employees. Provide input on work performance to the Principal Investigator.
• Provide orientation and on-the-job training to casual employees. Provide coaching and feedback on work quality issues, providing related day-to-day supervision. Escalate unresolved performance and/or disciplinary matters to the Principal Investigator.
