Reporting to the Director, Organizational Effectiveness, the Lead, Employee Engagement & Retention plays a pivotal role in shaping Ontario Health’s employee experience, strengthening retention strategies, and advancing a culture where people can thrive. This role offers the opportunity to lead high-impact, enterprise-wide initiatives that directly influence engagement, workforce sustainability, and organizational effectiveness.
The successful candidate will partner with HR leaders, HR Business Partners, Communications, third-party vendors, and key partners across Ontario Health to design and enhance enterprise engagement and retention strategies. This is an excellent opportunity for a strategic and collaborative leader who is passionate about using data, insights, and employee feedback to drive meaningful change at scale.
Here is what you will be doing:
Key Responsibilities
Lead Ontario Health’s enterprise employee engagement, retention, and organizational listening strategies, including engagement, culture, pulse, lifecycle, and ad hoc survey programs.
Act as the subject matter expert on employee engagement and retention, providing strategic advice and recommendations to HR leaders and partners.
Analyze engagement, retention, and workforce data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and translate findings into practical, organization-wide recommendations.
Partner across HR, Communications, and business leadership to advance employee experience, culture, and organizational effectiveness priorities.
Design and implement programs, tools, and action-planning resources that strengthen engagement, retention, and the overall employee experience.
Support leaders and HR Business Partners in turning employee feedback into targeted, measurable action plans.
Oversee engagement and listening platforms, including vendor management, analytics, reporting, and continuous improvement.
Develop presentations, dashboards, reports, and briefing materials to communicate insights, progress, and recommendations to senior leaders and stakeholders.
Lead organization-wide engagement and retention initiatives from planning through implementation, measurement, and reporting.
Evaluate program effectiveness and identify opportunities to further enhance employee experience, engagement, and retention outcomes.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, Psychology, or a related field required.
5–7 years’ experience in employee engagement, organizational effectiveness, employee experience, retention, organizational development, or related Human Resources functions within a complex organization.
Demonstrated experience leading employee engagement, retention, organizational listening, culture or employee experience programs in a mid-sized to large organization.
Experience analyzing data and translating insights into actionable recommendations, strategies and programs.
Experience working with senior leadership, cross-functional teams and complex stakeholder groups.
Completion of (or working towards) Human Resources certification is considered an asset.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of employee engagement, retention, organizational effectiveness, culture, and organizational listening strategies and practices.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills with the ability to translate insights into strategic recommendations.
Strong communication, facilitation, presentation and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
Strategic thinking skills with the ability to develop program approaches, action plans and recommendations aligned to organizational priorities.
Knowledge of employee survey methodologies and continuous improvement principles.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives within a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively across teams and functions.
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Workday, employee engagement platforms and HR systems.
