Molecular You is redefining what it means to know your health. Our precision multi-omic platform generates deep molecular profiles that help people and their clinicians take meaningful, proactive action. As a Senior Mass Spectrometry Scientist, you will be a technical cornerstone of our analytical laboratory—developing, validating, performing, and overseeing clinical multi-omic assays that underpin the absolute quantification workflows at the heart of our clinical operations.
This is a high-impact opportunity for a scientist who combines deep technical expertise with the discipline of a regulated clinical environment and is energized by translating rigorous analytical science into real-world health impact. You will own assay development from conception through ISO-compliant deployment, solve complex instrumentation and shape next-generation MS capabilities, and mentor junior scientists in best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Assay Development & Absolute Quantification
- Develop, optimize, and implement proprietary MRM-MS assays for targeted absolute quantification of proteins, lipids, metabolites, and other analytes across complex biological matrices (including plasma, serum, and potentially others).
- Execute full method validation packages in accordance with FDA Bioanalytical Method Validation guidance, CLIA and ISO 15189 frameworks.
- Develop, update, and maintain SOPs that support robust, reproducible, and audit-ready laboratory workflows.
- Develop technical and training transfer packages that enable partner laboratories to accurately and reproducibly run our assays in a clinical laboratory environment.
- Develop new MS-based technologies for integration into Molecular You's clinical multi-omic assay workflow.
Instrumentation & Troubleshooting
- Serve as a subject matter expert for LC-MS/MS platforms (e.g., Agilent, Sciex, Thermo, Waters), including source optimization, ion-pair selection, chromatographic troubleshooting, and scheduled MRM configuration.
- Lead systematic troubleshooting of assay failures, matrix interference, ion suppression, and carryover issues, escalating findings and implementing permanent corrective actions.
- Maintain instrument qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) records and coordinate preventative maintenance schedules with vendors in accordance with laboratory SOPs.
Clinical Laboratory Operations
- Operate within a regulated clinical laboratory (ISO 15189 or equivalent) environment, maintaining strict adherence to SOPs, chain-of-custody protocols, and sample integrity requirements.
- Partner with the laboratory director and QA/QC team to prepare, maintain, and execute documentation required for ISO accreditation, proficiency testing, and external audits.
- Ensure all assay workflows are audit-ready, including instrument logs, reagent traceability, QC charts, and deviation records.
Data Analysis & Scientific Communication
- Perform and review quantitative data analysis using software platforms such as MassHunter, Skyline, or equivalent, ensuring accurate peak integration and batch review.
- Author high-quality technical reports, SOPs, and method transfer documents; present findings to cross-functional stakeholders including bioinformatics, product, and medical teams.
- Contribute to peer-reviewed publications and support intellectual property activities as applicable.
Mentorship & Collaboration
- Mentor and coach junior scientists and laboratory technicians in MRM-MS principles, laboratory operations, and quantitative method development.
- Collaborate with bioinformaticians, data scientists, and software engineers to integrate MS data streams into Molecular You's broader multi-omic platform.
- Support procurement and capital equipment decisions for next-generation mass spectrometry infrastructure.
Qualifications
Required
- PhD. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Proteomics, Metabolomics, or a closely related field; or M.Sc. with 5+ years of directly relevant industry experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience developing and validating quantitative MRM-MS assays in a professional laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in absolute quantification by LC-MS/MS using stable isotope-labeled internal standards and external calibration curves.
- Deep familiarity with at least one major LC-MS/MS vendor platform (Agilent, Sciex, Thermo Scientific, or Waters).
- Expertise in operating LC-MS/MS systems and using associated acquisition, processing, and method-development software.
- Proven ability to independently troubleshoot complex analytical problems across chromatography, ionization, and detection.
- Experience working with a laboratory information management system (LIMS).
Preferred
- Experience in a multi-omic or systems biology context, with exposure to proteomics, metabolomics, or lipidomics at a clinical or translational scale.
- Experience with clinical laboratory setup, launch, or scale-up.
- Familiarity with Skyline or similar open-source MRM data management and analysis tools.
- Direct experience working in or supporting an ISO 15189-accredited or equivalent clinical or regulated analytical laboratory. Prior involvement in ISO accreditation drives, external laboratory audits, or regulatory submissions
- Experience with automated sample preparation platforms (e.g., Hamilton, Tecan) and their integration with MS workflows.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment where scientific rigor and operational agility are equally valued.
- A builder mindset: you enjoy creating robust analytical systems, improving how a laboratory operates, and collaborating across disciplines to turn complex science into scalable clinical impact.
