Pharm.D. Student Intern (Specialty Pharmacy)

The Pharm.D. Student Intern supports the specialty pharmacy team in delivering exceptional patient care and medication management services for patients with complex and chronic health conditions. Working under the supervision of licensed pharmacists, the intern gains hands-on experience in specialty pharmacy operations, patient support, clinical services, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacists with medication reviews, therapy monitoring, and patient follow-up activities.
• Participate in patient education and counseling related to specialty medications, including administration, adherence, storage, and side effect management.
• Support the coordination of medication access, reimbursement, prior authorizations, and patient assistance programs.
• Review patient profiles and clinical documentation to identify opportunities for intervention and optimization of therapy.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, clinics, insurers, and pharmaceutical manufacturers to support patient care plans.
• Conduct drug information research and provide evidence-based clinical information to the pharmacy team.
• Assist with quality improvement initiatives, patient care projects, and pharmacy operations activities.
• Participate in specialty medication dispensing processes while ensuring compliance with pharmacy regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
• Document patient interactions and pharmacy interventions accurately and professionally within pharmacy systems.
• Contribute to a patient-centered environment focused on building trust, improving outcomes, and enhancing the patient experience.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program.
• Registered as a student pharmacist or pharmacy intern in accordance with provincial regulatory requirements.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Interest in specialty pharmacy, clinical care, and patient support services.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
