The Opportunity

McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for Senior Civil Engineer, Community and Resort Development to join our growing team. In this role, you will lead multi-disciplinary Community and Resort development projects with a focus on the civil engineering components. You will also act as a primary point of contact for key clients, nurturing long-term relationships, identifying new business opportunities and expanding our business. What You’ll Do

You will act as the Civil Engineer of Record and Client Manager for complex development projects from concept through to completion, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met.  

Our work spans a diverse range of site servicing and subdivision projects across community, resort, commercial, and residential development. From ski hills and spas to outdoor destinations, affordable housing, and growing communities, our portfolio reflects the unique needs of the Bow Valley and beyond. As a leading service provider in Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise, and Kananaskis, we are expanding across Alberta and Eastern BC. The successful candidate will independently design and manage projects that support this growth. You will also:

  • Serve as the lead client liaison for key accounts, ensuring a deep understanding of client needs and consistently exceeding expectations.  
  • Prepare, review and seal technical reports, drawings, proposals, budgets, and project documentation.  
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to project teams including engineers, technologists, and support staff.  
  • Drive account expansion, including building new relationships and cross-selling value-added services.  
  • Mentor and manage cross-functional project teams (engineers, planners, surveyors), developing talent in the organization.  
  • Partner with senior management to shape the strategic direction of our project portfolio and client engagement model.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field; registration in good standing as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Alberta. 
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in land development engineering consulting, with demonstrated capabilities in project management and client-facing responsibilities. 
  • Proven track record delivering land development projects. 
  • Solid knowledge of design standards, contract administration, and approval processes. 
  • Strong communicator and team leader, with a collaborative and mentoring approach. 
  • Skilled in managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment.

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $165,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
