About the Role

The Terrestrial Environmental Specialist role will provides technical environmental expertise focused on land-based ecosystems, including vegetation, wildlife, habitats, soils, and terrestrial biodiversity. The role will support the Phase 2 Project by ensuring regulatory compliance, environmental protection, and sustainable project delivery. This role is required to provide strong fieldwork, impact assessment, and compliance monitoring support.

Reporting to the Environment Lead, this will be based in Kitimat, working 10 hours daily and Monday – Friday.

You will use your expertise to:

Provide Field Studies & Environmental Assessments

Conduct baseline surveys and field program (vegetation, wildlife, species at risk, wetlands, ecosystems)
Perform habitat assessments and ecological mapping to support project planning
Lead or support environmental monitoring during construction activities

Provide Environmental Compliance & Monitoring

Ensure compliance with BC and federal regulations, permits, and standards
Monitor project activities to minimize impact on terrestrial ecosystems
Maintain environmental records, inspection reports, and compliance documentation

Provide Impact Assessment & Mitigation

Support Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA/EA) and permitting processes
Identify risks to terrestrial resources and develop mitigation measures and management plans
Implement strategies to reduce environmental footprint and protect biodiversity

Provide Data Collection, Analysis & Reporting

Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data (soil, vegetation, wildlife, etc.)
Prepare technical reports, monitoring summaries, and regulatory submissions
Maintain GIS/environmental databases for the projects

Manage Stakeholder & Contractor Interface

Liaise with:
Regulators (e.g. BC EAO, BCER, Ministry of Environment)
Indigenous groups
Contractors and project teams

Provide environmental guidance and training to field teams

Environmental Program Implementation

Support implementation of: Environmental Management Plans (EMP); Vegetation and wildlife protection plans, Erosion and sediment control.

Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions

To be successful, you will have:

The ideal candidate will have >8 years’ experience in major project environment, with a strong preference for mega project experience.

Have Bachelor’s degree in either of the following:

Environmental Science
Biology / Ecology
Natural Resource Management
Environmental Engineering or related field

Have experience relevant to Fieldwork in terrestrial disciplines

Experience with BC-specific regulations and ecosystems is highly valued

The preferred candidate should have the following:

Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) or eligibility

Environmental Professional (EP) designation (Canada)

Valid BC driver’s license as a field roles

This role requires that you:

Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
Live in the beautiful District of Stikine (Kitimat/Terrace). For applicants located outside of the region, this role will result in temporarily relocating to Kitimat, in which accommodations will be provided by LNG Canada as per our policy for accompanied and unaccompanied status. You are encouraged to explore what Kitimat has to offer in terms of lifestyle including schooling, local amenities, outdoor adventure, and housing, to ensure Kitimat is where you would like to call your new home.
Are willing to comply with LNGC’s drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
Understand that this will be a mix of field and office. Must go out in inclement weather, such as rain, snow, wind, cold or heat.
Undergo a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty
This role is expected to end approximately <5 Years subject to a positive FID by end of 2026.
This is a full-time role with benefits, this is not a contractor role.
