Purpose of the Role

The Health & Safety Advisor supports the implementation and continuous improvement of the company’s health and safety program across Canada. This role contributes to accident prevention, claims management, incident investigations, and return-to-work processes related to workplace injuries, while ensuring compliance with all applicable health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted advisor to managers and employees on all matters related to occupational health and safety, workplace injuries, claims management, disability cases, and return-to-work processes;
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and key resource for health and safety matters across Canadian operations;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety laws, regulations, and legislative requirements in the jurisdictions where the company operates;
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve corporate health and safety policies, procedures, programs, tools, and initiatives;
  • Coordinate investigations following accidents, incidents, and near-misses, ensure follow-up on corrective and preventive actions, and develop action plans to prevent recurrence;
  • Manage workplace injury claims, appeals, disability cases, and return-to-work files in collaboration with the company’s external service provider;
  • Coordinate return-to-work plans, temporary assignments, and accommodation measures in partnership with employees, managers, healthcare professionals, government agencies, insurers, and other external stakeholders involved in health and safety matters;
  • Oversee actuarial analyses related to the retrospective rating program, with support from the company’s external provider, to support informed decision-making;
  • Produce, analyze, and interpret health and safety metrics, statistics, dashboards, and reports; participate in workplace inspections, internal and external audits, and health and safety committee activities; and provide recommendations for continuous improvement;
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate training, awareness, and communication initiatives that promote a strong safety culture and safe work practices, in collaboration with Human Resources, Operations, Legal, and external partners;
  • Participate in corporate projects and organizational initiatives aimed at improving workplace health, safety, and employee well-being.

Your Profile

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources, or Bachelor's degree in Industrial Relations;
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety;
  • Bilingual in English and French, both written and spoken; (the role requires communication with partners outside Quebec);
  • Experience working in a multi-site environment is considered an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, and best practices;
  • Solid understanding of applicable workplace health and safety laws and compliance requirements;
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
