Specialist, Inflight Regulatory & Standards

Job Summary

The Specialist, Inflight Regulatory & Standards acts as the primary point of accountability for regulatory compliance and standards across Porter's Inflight Services operation, spanning both the Dash 8 and E195-E2 fleets. This role interprets and applies Transport Canada regulations, owns the Flight Attendant Manual and related documentation, leads compliance monitoring and audit activity, and serves as the connective link between operational compliance needs and crew training. The Specialist works closely with Brand and Service, Training and Development, and Safety to ensure that regulatory and procedural changes are accurately reflected across all crew-facing materials.

Duties & Responsibilities

Regulatory Authority

• Serve as the primary interpreter of Transport Canada regulations for cabin crew operations on the assigned fleet(s).
• Ensure all programs and procedures comply with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), IOSA standards, and Transport Canada requirements.
• Stay current on regulatory updates, industry standards, and emerging best practices.
• Participate in regulatory reviews and inspections.
• Escalate regulatory decisions and corrective action approvals to the Manager/Senior Manager as required.
• Actively participate in Porter's Safety Management System (SMS) by identifying and reporting workplace hazards and promoting a safe work environment

Manual and Documentation Ownership

• Maintain the Flight Attendant Manual (FAM) and draft necessary bulletins.
• Monitor, review, and maintain all Inflight policies and procedures.
• Ensure all operational procedure changes are documented and distributed in a timely manner.
• Flag procedural changes to the Supervisor, Training & Development, to ensure training materials are kept current.

Compliance Monitoring and Audits

• Conduct regular audits and spot checks against regulatory and company requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of regulatory communications, compliance tracking, and corrective actions.
• Assist in safety and service event investigations, including documentation, analysis, and follow-up.
• Provide analytical support for quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Cross-Functional Bridging

• Collaborate with Brand and Service, Training, and Safety teams to ensure operational changes are reflected in crew training.
• Maintain ongoing connection with the Supervisor, Training & Development, on operational compliance needs.
• Maintain training equipment inventory and office supplies.
• Assist with special projects as required.
• Successfully complete initial training and remain qualified on type.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of relevant experience in aviation, training, safety, compliance, or a related field. 
• Minimum 2 years of cabin crew experience is required
• Post-secondary education in a relevant field is considered an asset.
• Previous experience in an aviation regulatory, safety or compliance environment.
• Demonstrated experience with audits, investigations, or compliance tracking an asset.
• Strong knowledge of Transport Canada Civil Aviation Regulations (CARs), Flight Attendant Training Standards, IOSA Standards, and applicable airline operational standards.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and documentation skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
• Strong written communication skills, with the ability to draft clear manuals, bulletins, and procedural documentation.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and detail-driven environment while managing multiple priorities.

• Comfortable working cross-functionally with Training & Development, Brand and Service, and Safety teams.

• Sound judgment and discretion when escalating regulatory or compliance matters.

• Strong customer service orientation and commitment to Porter’s values of safety, care, and integrity.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite platforms is required; familiarity with document control, compliance management systems, or Learning Management Systems is an asset.

• Fluency in English is required; fluency in French is considered an asset.

• Willingness to travel occasionally for training-related activities; must maintain a valid passport and be able to travel when required.

• Ability to obtain and maintain restricted airport security clearance.
