How you’ll make an impact
FCC’s external communications team helps shape how our story is understood by customers, industry partners, media, government and the broader public. We’re looking for a strategic communicator who is comfortable writing for executive members, subject matter experts and everyone in between, expertly tailoring their writing to a specific audience.
As a trusted, collaborative writer, you’ll build strong relationships across the organization and bring clarity in fast-moving, high-stakes situations. You’ll remain focused and solutions-oriented as timelines tighten or direction shifts, helping leaders communicate credibly when it matters most.
You’ll also bring to life the stories of the people we serve, highlighting their resilience and innovation. By connecting Canadian agriculture and food to the challenges of today, you’ll help external audiences clearly see the real-world impact of the industry.
What you’ll do
Provide senior-level strategic communications counsel to leaders and internal partners
Write and edit speeches, key messages, advertorials, briefing notes, presentations and other external communications for FCC leaders and internal partners
Translate complex business issues and industry topics into clear, audience-focused narratives
Anticipate risk and advise on sensitive or high-impact communication challenges
Use data, insights and research to continuously improve communication effectiveness
Partner across functions (for example, Brand, Change, Marketing) to ensure aligned and coordinated communication
Build strong, trusted relationships across the organization
What you’ll bring to the team
Required qualifications
A degree in communication, journalism, arts or English
Minimum six years of progressive experience in strategic communications or related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, including executive-level speeches
Proven ability to influence senior leaders and navigate complex stakeholder environments
Strong strategic thinking and systems thinking capabilities
Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence without authority and work effectively with partners
Strong project and workflow management skills
Preferred qualifications
Experience in agriculture, finance or regulated industry
Familiarity with digital platforms (for example, SharePoint, Microsoft 365)
Bilingualism (French and English)
