Responsibilities:

Academic Leadership

• Collaborate with the Dean in planning and implementation of the Health Science program’s strategic and facilities planning
• Provide leadership at diverse health forums including the Academic Health Council, Heads of Nursing and Health Sciences, as well as other regional, provincial and national health forums
• Lead preparation of program budgets, staffing plans, course masters, evaluation mechanisms and other administrative documents, all after consultation with Faculty members
• Build partnerships with external community with the goal of advancing the vision and mission of the Faculty
• Facilitate the development and implementation of new academic programs and the ongoing review of existing programs to reflect changing technology, economic and market influences and employment opportunities in accordance with current business/industry standards as well as College/University and Ministry guidelines.
• Participate in the development of delivery strategies to assist with international initiatives, distance education, and the development and implementation of alternative learning and delivery strategies.
• Ensure that the objectives of the programs and courses offered by the School of Health Science are attained through effective supervision of the teaching and learning processes including the provision of appropriate learning resources and the establishment/maintenance of close contacts with business/industry, regulatory bodies, community organizations, faculty liaison, and advisory committees.
• Ensure currency of knowledge in student engagement practices and appropriate instructional design including the integration of technologies into education delivery to promote student success.
• Address issues, challenges, and opportunities related to the delivery of a high-quality learning experience for students in the School of Health
• Provide academic leadership in curriculum review and ensures adherence to accreditation requirements.
• Ensure the establishment of learning outcomes for programs in the department in accordance with provisions set out in College and Ministry policies and external agencies involved.
• Ensure the financial viability of the programs through critical analysis of enrolment data, space utilization, and program costing across the two institutions.
• Develop, recommend, monitor, and administer the budget activity for the department and reports the budget data to the office of the Dean.
• Assign staff workloads in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Agreements.
• Ensures the effective use of human, physical, and financial resources and their appropriate allocation.
• Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all laboratories, including replacement, repairs and maintenance of equipment.
• Ensure that students’ learning experiences respect the norms of credentialing bodies as applicable.

Human Resources Management and Development

• Facilitate the development of effective communications between faculty and support staff to encourage proactive participation and support of College objectives.
• Maintain a high level of performance through effective recruitment, selection, development, motivation, evaluation, and training of full-time and part-time faculty and support staff within the department.
• Promote and monitor the ongoing professional development of faculty and staff.
• Support faculty and support staff in implementing innovative practices and appropriate applied research.
• Foster the collaboration of faculty and staff in supporting other areas of the College in their efforts to bring Canadore closer to its Interprofessional vision
• Conduct first-level investigations and initiates the problem-solving process for disputes involving faculty, staff, and students within the department. Utilizes Collective Agreements, College Directives, and consultation to assist in the dispute resolution process.
• Advise/counsel BSc and School of Health students to help them resolve problems/overcome difficulties and refers them to appropriate resources.
• Hire part-time and temporary staff.
• Establish equipment requirements including software and computers with program staff and prioritizes the requests within the department.
• Develop and prepares the necessary budget proposals.
