The Big Picture

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Tax, the Senior Tax Associate will be an integral part of the Finance team and will be responsible for supporting tax compliance, reporting, planning initiatives, and audits across the KF Matheson family office and related operating entities. Working closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors, the successful candidate will help ensure compliance with evolving tax legislation, support business decisions, and identify opportunities to improve processes and manage tax risk.

Your Impact

The person in this role will work closely with the Senior Manager, Tax and other members of the Finance team to support tax compliance, reporting, planning initiatives and audits across the KF Matheson family office and related operating entities. Working closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors, the successful candidate will help ensure compliance with evolving tax legislation while supporting business decisions and identifying opportunities to improve processes and manage tax risk.

Specifically, the responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the preparation of corporate, personal, trust and foundation income tax returns.
  • Supporting indirect tax compliance activities, including GST/HST, U.S. Sales Tax and other applicable tax filings.
  • Coordinating tax audits, government reviews and information requests.
  • Researching tax legislation and providing practical guidance on the tax implications of business transactions.
  • Preparing draft tax memoranda outlining tax implications and recommended filing positions.
  • Supporting estate planning initiatives within the family office structure.
  • Maintaining tax calendars and ensuring compliance requirements and filing deadlines are met.
  • Supporting foreign tax compliance requirements, including VAT and employment taxes.
  • Assisting with SR&ED claim preparation and other government grant programs.
  • Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments that may impact the organization and its investments.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve tax processes, documentation, and automation.
  • Supporting special projects and cross-functional initiatives, as required.

Your Unique Expertise

Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • CPA designation completed.
  • 4–6 years of progressive experience in a public accounting or industry tax role.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian corporate income tax principles and compliance requirements.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with tax and accounting software.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Self-starter mindset with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a small team.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Enrollment in, or completion of, the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program.
  • Experience with tax provisions and financial reporting.
  • Exposure to trusts, foundations, private company structures or family office environments.
  • Experience supporting foreign tax compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to identify process improvements and implement more efficient ways of working.

This role has a base salary range of $90,000 CAD to $110,000 CAD. Final offers are determined based on individual skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other job-related factors.
