Position: Research Assistant, International Trade and Investment — Fixed-Term, Full Time

The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) is an independent not-for-profit organization focused on Canada’s relations with Asia. Our mission is to enable Canadians to understand, connect with, and succeed in Asia through research, education, convening, and initiatives that strengthen Canada–Asia engagement.

APF Canada is seeking a full-time Research Assistant, International Trade and Investment, for a fixed-term position from September 2026 to March 31, 2027.

The Research Assistant will support research and analysis on key trade and investment issues connecting Canada and the Asia Pacific region.

The role involves conducting qualitative and quantitative research, collecting and analyzing data, contributing to analytical reports and briefing materials, monitoring trade and investment trends, maintaining research datasets and resources, and supporting meetings, consultations, webinars, and events.

Key responsibilities include conducting background research and literature reviews; supporting research on free trade agreements, foreign direct investment (FDI), supply chains, critical minerals, and economic diversification; assisting with short-form publications and longer research reports; preparing briefing notes, presentations, and research summaries; and reviewing and verifying research information and data.

The Research Assistant will also support APF Canada’s Investment Monitor by collecting and maintaining data, tracking relevant investment announcements and trends, and helping ensure information is accurate and current. The position will provide research, administrative, and logistical support for meetings, consultations, workshops, webinars, and other International Trade and Investment program activities.

Candidates should have a master’s degree, or equivalent, in a relevant field, such as economics, public administration, business administration, international business, political science, or international political economy. The ideal candidate will have experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research, collecting and analyzing data, synthesizing complex information for general audiences, and managing multiple projects concurrently.

Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential. Candidates should be proactive, able to work independently, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Experience with multilateral organizations, preparing briefings, managing projects, event management, or working with Canadian government agencies would be considered an asset.
