Scope of Position

The Virtual Advisor, Wealth Desk is responsible for managing and retaining a portfolio of member relationships primarily consisting of households with less complex investment needs and investable assets generally under $100,000. Through phone, video, email, and other digital channels, the Virtual Advisor delivers investment advice, portfolio reviews, account maintenance support, and high-quality member service aligned with each member’s goals and circumstances.

This role supports the growth and retention of Alterna’s wealth portfolio by servicing existing members, converting eligible referrals, identifying appropriate consolidation opportunities, and maintaining strong compliance standards. By managing smaller or less complex relationships through a dedicated virtual advice channel, the Wealth Desk increases capacity for Wealth Bankers and Investment Advisors to focus on more complex planning and higher-value member opportunities.

Where a member’s needs become larger, more complex, or require more comprehensive planning, the Virtual Advisor will refer the relationship to the appropriate Wealth Banker or Investment Advisor in accordance with Alterna’s wealth segmentation approach.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned portfolio of smaller, less complex investment relationships, generally under $100,000 in investable assets.
• Deliver advice and exceptional member service through phone, video, email, and other approved digital channels.
• Proactively complete portfolio reviews and follow-up activities to support retention, satisfaction, and portfolio growth.
• Identify appropriate opportunities for asset consolidation, increased contributions, and additional investment solutions.
• Receive, qualify, and follow up on wealth referrals, converting eligible opportunities into Wealth Desk relationships.
• Refer larger accounts, complex planning needs, and sophisticated investment requirements to the appropriate Wealth Banker or Investment Advisor.
• Maintain current knowledge of approved products, market conditions, investment principles, and regulatory requirements.
• Complete KYC updates, account documentation, member notes, and compliance records accurately and on time.
• Partner with Wealth Bankers, Investment Advisors, Retail teams, and internal partners to support seamless handoffs and a strong member experience.
• Support service standards and process improvements that enhance the virtual member experience.
• Participate in team meetings, training, coaching, and professional development activities as required.

• Positive net sales through appropriate retention, consolidation, and growth opportunities.
• High levels of member satisfaction and service excellence.
• Timely and accurate completion of KYC and compliance requirements.
• Effective triage and referral of complex planning needs and larger relationships.
• Professional, responsive, and timely follow-up with members and internal partners.

Education / Certification / Experience

• Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Commerce, Economics, or a related field.
• Mutual fund licensing is required, supported by completion of the IFIC, CIFC, or CSC.
• PFP or CFP designation, or progress toward either designation, is considered an asset.
• 1–2 years of experience in financial services, investment sales, client service, or advisory support.
• 1–2 years of experience with mutual funds, GICs, CRM systems, digital advice tools, and investment platforms is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships, retain business, and identify appropriate financial solutions.

• Knowledge of investment products, suitability requirements, and fundamental financial planning concepts.
• Strong communication, relationship-building, and member service skills.
• Excellent organizational abilities, attention to detail, and time management.
• Service and retention mindset with the ability to identify growth opportunities.
• Sound judgment and the ability to recognize when member needs require referral to a Wealth Banker or Investment Advisor.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, Outlook, CRM systems, and digital advice tools.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
