Your Opportunity:

The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) Critical Care Program consists of General Systems Intensive Care Unit (GSICU) and the Edmonton Firefighters’ Burn Treatment Unit. The GSICU is a Level 1 Trauma Centre ICU and provincial transplant center for northern and central Alberta, northern BC, Saskatchewan and northern Territories. The Burn Unit is one of two American Burn Association verified burn centres in Canada with a catchment area of central and northern Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan and the northern Territories. Service workers have a wide range of responsibilities. They porter patients to and from different hospital units; clean and disinfect patient use items and equipment; transport lab specimens, blood and blood products; and transport patient charts. As part of their role, they ensure that multi-purpose examining rooms, outpatient surgery rooms, and entire units are properly and fully stocked with instruments, equipment and other supplies. This position works closely with Supply Coordinator. Also may be responsible for Hand-Hygiene Audits and WHS.

Description:

As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Fluent in speaking/reading/writing English. Must be able to follow verbal & written instructions. Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time and lift 22.5 kg, or assist in lifting up to 157.5 kg on a regular basis. Must possess verbal, numerical and clerical abilities, visual and auditory acuity, motor coordination, eye-hand coordination. Reliable, cooperative and ability to demonstrate effective service attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous hospital experience an asset. Knowledge of hospital equipment and procedures preferred. Previous Portering experience an asset.
