Under the general direction of the Director, General Accounting, this position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. This role involves the month-end and year-end close processes, generation of financial statements and trial balances, audit support, and compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies. The position provides leadership to General Accounting staff and works closely with all General Accounting and Finance Shared Services teams, Provincial Health Agencies and Corporation’s finance leaders to support, monitor and maintain the integrity of financial data and accounting records. The position is primarily responsible for leading a team and providing leadership, planning and direction to staff through advice, interpretation of policies and procedures, and resolution of issues related to operational matters. Coordinates and allocates workload assignments, reviews work and provides coaching and performance management to staff. This is currently a remote work from home position and therefore applications from across the province are welcome. It is a full-time assignment expected to start in September 2026.

Description:

As the manager your role will include activities such as: Ensuring that financial information included in internal and external financial reporting is reliable, timely, complete, accurate and compliant with relevant standards (i.e. GAAP/PSAS, regulatory standards, internal policies, etc.). Lead the implementation and enhancement of financial systems, accounting processes, reporting tools, and internal controls. Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes Monitor and maintain the integrity of financial data and accounting records Ensure sub-ledger integrations and interfaces are accurately recorded and reconciled. Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures Provide leadership, planning and direction including coordinating and allocating workload assignments, reviewing of work, coaching, performance management and development of professional staff including Senior Financial Analysts and Financial Analysts. Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency. Strategic Planning and compliance - set annual goals for the team, and work with staff on individual goal setting. Evaluate departmental policies, procedures and internal controls and develop and implement changes where necessary. This includes acting as liaison in developing interdepartmental policies and procedures to ensure areas with a financial impact incorporate the necessary financial requirements. Participate and or lead project teams to identify issues and recommend solutions. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to develop project plans, timelines and deliverables. Provide technical accounting guidance related to capital asset transactions, leasehold improvements, contributed assets, work-in-progress projects, and asset impairment assessments.

Required Qualifications:

Post secondary degree specializing in accounting or related field. CPA Accounting designation. Other professional accounting designations and or relevant experience may also be considered.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated strong and current understanding of Public Sector Accounting Standards. Knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement preparation for large and complex clients in a public sector setting. Advanced understanding of financial controls, reconciliations, and reporting. Experience managing general accounting within a large, complex healthcare, public sector, or government-funded organization. Strong knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) related to Tangible Capital Assets, and related guidance. Experience with capital project accounting, asset lifecycle management, and fixed asset modules within enterprise financial systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Workday). Proven ability to work with various internal and external stakeholders including program representatives and the Ministry. Ability to work within tight reporting deadlines. Strong working knowledge of Oracle-R12 (ability to run, understand reports including related MIS standards), MS Office Suite applications specifically Excel and Word. Ability to function within a collaborative team environment. Excellent communication, analytical and organization skills. Ability to work independently with guidance in only the most complex situations.


Preferred Qualifications:

Over 7 years of accounting/financial reporting experience with preference given to financial reporting within a large, complex public sector entity. Demonstrated experience in leading, managing and mentoring professional staff. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Experience in managing time-sensitive reporting deadlines.
