Description

Your Opportunity:

Under the supervision of the Nurse Clinician, Charge Nurse and GI Managers, the LPN provides quality and collaborative patient and family-centred care within the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy Department on the Endoscopy Unit at the Foothills Medical Centre. The LPN is an integral member of the Endoscopy care team. LPN’s are the primary care provider to Endoscopy patients; primary responsibilities are: Admitting patients to the Admission/Recovery Room, performing patient assessments, IV initiation, Providing post-procedure patient care and discharge teaching. To fully support Gastroenterology services, the successful candidate may be cross trained to work in various areas of Gastroenterology, including the GI outpatient clinic in AREA 2 UCMC. Current hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 0700-1815hrs. However, these hours may change to meet operational requirements.

You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have 2 to 3 years of recent acute care experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a fast-paced team environment. A professional, compassionate, and patient-focused approach to care is essential, along with a commitment to patient- and family-centered practice. The ability to adapt to changing priorities, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and maintain intermediate computer proficiency is required. Candidates must also be able to meet the physical demands of the role, including prolonged standing and walking, pushing and pulling stretchers, and repositioning sedated patients.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in IV therapy is preferred. Experience recovering patients following procedural sedation, proficiency with Connect Care, and previous experience caring for gastroenterology patients and supporting endoscopic procedures are considered assets.
