Located at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, working with postpartum patients, the Licensed Practical Nurse performs a variety of nursing duties by administering safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. As the successful candidate, you demonstrate a professional attitude while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, have a thorough understanding of the postpartum period, and possess extensive knowledge of newborn assessment and breastfeeding. The incumbent will also consider the Essential Habits as set forth by the Royal Alex Way in daily interactions with colleagues, patients and visitors.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:NRP certification, recent experience in Women's Health, successful completion and passing of medication math examination at time of interview. This position requires the ability to meet the physical demands associated with nursing duties in an acute hospital unit setting. These include but are not limited to: Frequent pushing and pulling of equipment or patients Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the shift Regular bending, kneeling, twisting and reaching Ability to lift, move, or assist patients and equipment weighing up to 40–50 pounds Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent experience in an acute care setting - maternal/child health preferred.
