Your Opportunity:

We are looking for an experienced Health Care Aide to add to the 1 East Team. Unit 1 East is a 28-bed unit, including 4 post angioplasty recovery beds, focusing on the care of cardiology patients. The unit offers the opportunity for all staff to work to the full scope of practice. This HCA opportunity functions as a key member of the multidisciplinary team, and is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care; collaborative decision-making alongside the multidisciplinary team is also a key part of this role. Physical demands of the job include sitting and standing for extended periods, frequently assisting patients to reposition/stand/sit, using repetitive motions/actions such as typing and computer use for prolonged periods, and extensive telephone use.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Additional Required Qualifications:

To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered please attach a RESUME and cover letter with your application. HCA registration must be current and up to date with the CLHA. Current Basic Life Support (BLS - Heart and Stroke AED Level C). Must the able to work to full scope of practice (physically, mentally and emotionally) on this very busy fast paced Unit. Must be able to push, pull and lift at least 50 lbs.
