Health Care Aide

Your Opportunity:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA) with the Rural West Canmore & Banff Home Care team, you will provide personal care and support to clients in their homes and lodge settings. You will practice as a regulated health care professional in accordance with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) Standards of Practice and work as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team. You will carry out assigned care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and in accordance with the client’s plan of care. This position requires travel to rural areas up to 30 km from the Canmore or Banff Home and Community Care Office. Responsibilities will include providing personal care and assists with activities of daily living as outlined in the care plan, including but not limited to personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, grooming, transferring and mobilizing; Provides emotional support by being a good listener, being supportive, being friendly and sincere, and interacting in a positive and optimistic manner; Provides respite care to relieve family caregivers including but not limited to companionship, recreational activities, and supervision; Performs health care duties as authorized on the client's plan of care including simple dressings, medication assistance, catheter care, ostomy care, and exercises for range of movement and strengthening.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.
