Viking Community Health Centre is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Health Care Aide (HCA) to join our Home Care Team, serving clients in Viking and the surrounding communities. Reporting to the Home Care Manager, you will play an important role in delivering client-centered care that supports individuals in maintaining their independence, dignity, and quality of life in their own homes. As a valued member of the Home Care Interdisciplinary Team, you will provide personal care and assist clients with activities of daily living in accordance with their individualized care plans. Success in this role requires a genuine commitment to respectful, compassionate care, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently in a variety of home and community settings. This position offers a dynamic work environment where flexibility, adaptability, and comfort working in all weather conditions are essential. Shift work is required to ensure consistent support for clients and their evolving care needs.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) through the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Driving in all weather conditions. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position including walking, bending, lifting, and standing and driving for long periods of time. Transporting supplies and equipment. CCHSS standards and Assisted Living Alberta/ AHS qualifications is mandatory and documentation that such education requirements are being met must be submitted on a regular basis. Basic computer skills with Windows operating system including Outlook and MS Teams. 2 years recent experience in Continuing care (Type A or B) and or Home Care. Please note: the successful candidate requires upmost flexibility as this is a shift work position and scheduling may require day and evening shift work.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification and experience with Medication Assistance. Prior Home Care experience. Training and experience with electronic documenting system, Connect Care.
