Under the supervision of the Gastroenterology leadership team, the Diagnostic Imaging Sonographer provides high-quality, patient and family-centered care within the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Clinic in Area 2, UCMC at the Foothills Medical Center. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary GI team, the Sonographer performs specialized intestinal ultrasound examinations to support the diagnosis, assessment, and ongoing management of patients with gastrointestinal conditions. This unique role combines direct patient care with opportunities to support and participate in innovative clinical research focused on intestinal ultrasound and IBD. Responsibilities include image acquisition as per appropriate protocols, documentation, consultation/collaboration with physicians and researchers, and adherence to research protocols and quality standards. The successful candidate will contribute to the continued growth and development of a specialized intestinal ultrasound program within Gastroenterology services. Current hours of operation are Monday to Friday; however, these hours may change to meet operational requirements.
As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and takes initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management all while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.
Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Demonstrated proficiency with English in verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, problem solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently and as a team member in a multidisciplinary environment. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, including prolonged standing/sitting. 1-3 years minimum working in a clinic or hospital setting.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous Connect Care experience is an asset.
