The Ministry of Energy and Minerals is responsible for sustaining the interests of Albertans through the stewardship and responsible development of energy and mineral resource systems. For more information on the work of our Ministry, please visit: https://www.alberta.ca/energy-and-minerals.
The Energy Policy division is responsible for energy, mines, and minerals policy development and program design. It engages with a wide variety of resource development partners including various levels of government, industry, and a wide spectrum of Alberta communities and Indigenous Peoples.
The Resource Stewardship Policy branch leads the department of Energy and Minerals' participation in the Government of Alberta's Integrated Resource Management System (IRMS). Resource Stewardship Policy branch's role in the IRMS is to ensure that provincial resource management policies support the Department's responsible resource (energy and mineral) mandate.
The branch is responsible for helping the government establish and sustain relationships regarding energy and mineral development with Indigenous communities and other interest and stakeholder groups, manage upstream oil and gas liabilities, and establish land use policies that balance resource development goals with environmental objectives, including species at risk. In each of these work areas, Resource Stewardship Policy's work is focused on developing strategic, risk-informed policy recommendations, implementing policy direction, and facilitating conflict resolution.
The Resource Stewardship Policy branch currently has three (3) positions available for agile and results-driven managers within its units listed below:
Resource Access Unit (includes the Manager of Integrated Planning):
The work of the Resource Access team is focused on supporting the development and implementation of Land-use Framework regional plans, associated policy and planning initiatives such as caribou sub-regional planning and administering the intergovernmental agreements that govern access to oil and gas resources within the Canadian Forces Bases that are located in Alberta. The team is also responsible for the administration of the Mineral Rights Compensation Regulation.
Liability and Risk Management Unit (includes the Manager of Liability):
The liability and Risk Management team is responsible for files including the liability management framework for upstream oil and gas, energy development in municipalities and issues related to development, the department's contributions to cross-Ministry air and water files, species at risk files (with the exception of caribou), surface rights issues, and the Orphan Well Association.
Community Relationships and Monitoring Unit (includes the Manager, Community Relationships & Monitoring:
The Community Relationships and Monitoring team focuses on building internal and external capacity and awareness to effectively engage with communities and stakeholders including, but not limited to, industry, landowners, municipal and environmental organizations and Indigenous peoples. This work includes gathering and communicating the values and perspectives of communities, providing engagement advice, supporting engagement and consultation planning, researching and analyzing issues, and fostering strong relationships between Alberta Energy and Minerals and communities, supporting resource access in the required engagement and any risk mitigation stemming from cumulative effects and regional planning.

Minimum University graduation in a related field (business, law, political science, science or other similar related field), supplemented by four (4) years of related experience in strategic stakeholder engagement, research and analysis, issue identification and resolution and project/program management.
Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
