Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Intake, Safety Assessment and Planning: Conduct comprehensive intake and safety assessments, engaging children, families, and community partners to identify protection concerns, develop least-intrusive safety plans, and make informed decisions that promote child safety and well-being.
• Case Management and Legal Responsibilities: Provide case management services by engaging children, families, and community partners, exercising delegated authority, supporting permanency planning, preparing legal documentation, and promoting positive outcomes through collaborative planning and legislative compliance.
• Cultural, Educational and Community Connections: Support children and youth in maintaining cultural, family, and community connections by facilitating cultural planning, educational supports, and collaborative partnerships that promote inclusion, identity, and lifelong relationships.
• Documentation and Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate documentation and case records, complete data entry in required systems, and support case administration through timely tracking, reporting, and processing of client and service information and ensuring compliance with Child Intervention standards and Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act (CYFEA) policies.
• Professional Collaboration and Development: Foster collaborative partnerships with families, community agencies, and ministry stakeholders, while contributing to case consultations, continuous learning, service improvements, and a positive workplace culture.

Successful candidates are lifelong learners who embrace innovative approaches and demonstrate cultural awareness, particularly regarding Indigenous communities and the impact of colonization. You’ll bring a strong understanding of Signs of Safety and the Child Intervention Practice Framework principles, along with deep knowledge of community resources and strategies to support diverse populations.

Calgary Region locations include multiple offices in Calgary, one in Airdrie and one in High River. As well, Calgary Region serves Albertans in a variety of communities which extend north, east, south, and west of the city of Calgary.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standard: Bachelor of Social Work or Social Work Diploma with 1 year of related experience.

Equivalency: 

• Master of Social Work (no experience required); or
• Related university degree (BA Child Studies/Child & Youth Care, BA Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA/BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehab, BSc Family Studies/Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development, Bachelor of Indigenous Studies) and 2 years related experience; or
• Related diploma (Addictions/Counselling, Child and Youth Care, Human Services, Criminal Justice) and 3 years related experience; or
• Related certificate and 4 years related experience.

Assets:

• Preference will be given to those who have at least one year experience (current or prior) within Child Intervention Services, Children and Family Services.
• Preference will be given to candidates who are currently delegated under CYFEA or have previously held delegation as a Child Intervention Practitioner in Alberta.
• Experience working for a Delegated First Nation Agency (DFNA).
• Completed a practicum with Children and Family Services.

Notes

Hours of Work:

• 36.25 hours per week (full-time). Typical work schedules are Monday to Friday, 8:15 am to 4:30 pm; however, some program areas may require shift work, and additional hours may be necessary to meet operational or business needs. This position may require one to participate in on-call/after-hours rotation (evenings and weekends) to ensure the needs of Albertans are met.

Travel and Vehicle Requirements:

• Travel will be required in this role; therefore, final candidates will be asked to provide a current 5-year Commercial Driver’s Abstract. Employees must hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and have access to a reliable vehicle, as personal vehicles may be required when government fleet vehicles are unavailable (i.e. to travel between required locations or to transport children and families). Employees must  have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License, vehicle liability insurance, valid registration and access to a vehicle that is suitable to the requirements of this position. 

Relocation: 

• If a new employee must relocate to commence employment at the Government of Alberta, a relocation amount can be requested; however, it will be subject to operational requirements, budget approvals, area of relocation etc. 

Pre-Employment Requirements: As part of the recruitment process, candidates must successfully complete the following:

• Virtual multi-panel interview.
• Written evaluation and assessments.
• Academic credential verification.
• Professional and/or academic reference checks.
• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.
• Intervention Record Check.

• Current 5-year Commercial Driver Abstract.
• $2 Million Vehicle Liability Insurance.
• Supervisory reference checks with a direct Supervisor and/or Manager.

If you completed a practicum placement with Children and Family Services, please include your practicum supervisor or manager as a reference.
