The Role

We are excited to add aJunior or Intermediate Estimator / Project Engineerto support various divisions and business units within our company. This position is based out of the head office in Edmonton, AB and will have shared responsibilities within the Estimating and Engineering teams. 

Estimating duties will include supporting the development, pricing and submission of accurate and competitive proposals that meet Company and Client requirements.  Some of the main duties involve preparing activity take-offs, estimate and template creation/completion, interfacing with vendors and subcontractors and communicating with clients and OCL stakeholders.The ideal candidate works well under pressure and within tight deadlines, is detail oriented, resourceful and has knowledge of field construction activities and estimating best practices.

Engineering duties will include assisting project managers, technical staff and multi-discipline specialists in the development of engineering work packages, design drawings and reports. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, works well with a team and is willing to take on varied tasks.

Key Duties & Responsibilities - Estimating

  • Estimating, proposal coordination and closing of assigned RFP’s
  • Coordination of vendor and subcontractor requirements
  • Understand the overall scope of each assigned RFP
  • Work with management to produce labor & material take-offs for each discipline
  • Participate in the preparation of all proposal documentation for each assigned RFP
  • Conduct formal review meetings for each assigned RFP including pre-bid coordination, discipline review, senior management review, and corporate review
  • Work with and advise field and senior management regarding estimates and proposals for assigned RFP’s
  • Preparation of subcontractor RFQ packages and provide an evaluation of all bids received
  • Participate in post-bid meetings & review processes
  • Participate in the development of systems for estimating, progress and productivity tracking
  • Building equipment rates based on market conditions and availability.

Key Duties & Responsibilities - Engineering

  • Performs engineering design using knowledge of relevant software programs
  • Works with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer/ designer
  • Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity
  • Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions
  • Assists in basic interpretation and verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff

Education/Experience/Skill Requirements

  • 1 - 3 years of civil, mechanical or piping construction experience with Engineering E.I.T or P.Eng. - Civil/Structural or Piping/Mechanical; 
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Computer take off skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with clients and stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Understanding of engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others (both technical and non-technical)
  • Experience with estimating software such as Ineight, Hard Dollar or B2W would be an asset
  • Experience working within a Google based environment using Google Sheets, Docs, Gmail, Calendar, etc.
  • Experience with Primavera P6 or Microsoft Schedules considered an asset
