Job Summary

This role reports directly to the Sr Manager, Downstream Procurement Operations.

What You'll Do:

Implement the Procurement department strategy across Downstream operations to support value creation, enterprise-wide efficiency, and consistent market approaches
Execute procure to pay activities for North American retail business within the Downstream business unit
Collaborate with internal stakeholder groups, including Potash, Nitrogen, Phosphate, and Category Management, to reduce duplication and support aligned procurement practices
Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities that deliver sustainable value and help mitigate organizational risk
Contribute to a collaborative team environment, strengthen procurement capabilities, and maintain high service levels for internal customers
Uphold Nutrien’s safety programs, ethical standards, and procurement policy requirements throughout sourcing activities and supplier engagements

Analyze business requirements to determine appropriate fulfillment channels and procurement mechanisms for requisitions
Champion P2P excellence across Downstream by supporting consistent, efficient, and compliant execution of purchasing activities from requisition through purchase order and payment through digital tools including SAP S4/HANA, Ariba Guided Buying and Candex
Optimize the buying experience by promoting the effective use of preferred suppliers, catalogs, contracts, and digital buying channels while reducing unnecessary complexity and off-channel spend
Partner with end users and cross-functional teams to resolve buying and P2P challenges, improve process performance, and identify opportunities for standardization, automation, and continuous improvement
Monitor regional spend data to identify opportunities for sourcing events, contracting, or spend channel migration
Support adoption and effective use of digital procurement platforms, contract execution tools, and automated sourcing systems

Support collaboration across Upstream, Midstream, and Downstream Operations by connecting back-office and frontline teams
Deliver reliable and responsive support to Operations by understanding stakeholder priorities and resolving procurement-related issues
Act as a point of contact for end-user technical queries, coordinate resolution, and escalate complex matters to management when required
Build productive supplier relationships and support commercial and process improvements that create measurable value for Nutrien
Coordinate with Procurement, Legal, Accounts Payable, IT, and other interdependent teams to support alignment across back-office functions

Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in procurement practices including buying and contract compliance, procurement operations, or supply chain within an industrial environment
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field; equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered
Professional certification or ongoing development in Procurement, Inventory Management, Lean Six Sigma, Negotiation, or Operational Planning is considered an asset

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop practical and actionable recommendations
Self-motivated and collaborative approach, with the ability to manage priorities and contribute to change initiatives
Strong negotiation, commercial, and stakeholder-management skills that support favorable and sustainable outcomes
Working knowledge of procurement processes, sourcing methods, contract administration, and Procure-to-Pay practices
Proficiency with digital procurement and enterprise systems; experience with SAP S/4HANA, Ariba Guided Buying, or Candex is an asset

Independently manage assigned procurement, buying and supplier-management activities, seeking guidance for higher-complexity or higher-risk matters
Communicate effectively with management, employees, suppliers, and cross-functional partners through clear written communication and presentations
Maintain a hands-on and adaptable approach, completing a range of duties required to achieve team objectives
Build alignment across business units and influence stakeholders toward consistent procurement practices and market approaches
Exercise sound judgment, attention to detail, and appropriate escalation in a fast-paced operational environment
