Job Overview
As a Junior Team Lead, you are responsible for supporting and coordinating daily operations in the production, processing, and packaging of our plant-based juices and milks. The successful candidates will assist with production flow, provide front-line guidance to production employees, verify materials before production starts, and help ensure that daily production plans are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with company procedures, SOPs, GMPs, HACCP, food safety, sanitation, quality, and health and safety requirements.
Statement of Work & Responsibilities
- Coordinate, assign and review the work of production employees engaged in beverage manufacturing and packaging operations.
- Support the Production Supervisor with daily shift coordination, task assignments, team communication and production follow-up.
- Guide team members during line setup, filling, capping, labelling, packing, case packing, palletizing, cleanup and changeovers.
- Support batch processing activities, including product preparation, transfer, staging and handling according to approved procedures.
- Verify that raw materials, ingredients, packaging materials, bottles, caps, labels, cases, trays, pallets and other supplies are available before production starts.
- Monitor production lines for quality, production flow, efficiency, downtime, waste, safety concerns and equipment issues.
- Ensure the correct product, lot code, date code, label, packaging format, case count and pallet configuration are followed for each production run.
- Complete and verify production paperwork, batch records, checklists, inventory records, waste records and other required documentation accurately and on time.
- Support inventory accuracy by verifying raw material and packaging material usage during and after production runs.
- Communicate material shortages, equipment issues, quality concerns, labour needs, safety issues and production risks to supervisors or management.
- Work with Quality Assurance, Processing, Packaging, Warehouse, Maintenance and Sanitation teams to support smooth production operations.
- Ensure team members follow SOPs, GMPs, HACCP requirements, allergen controls, sanitation procedures, product traceability and food safety standards.
- Support housekeeping by keeping production areas, walkways, equipment areas, staging areas and storage areas clean, organized and audit-ready.
- Help reduce waste by monitoring product loss, packaging damage, incorrect labels, rework and avoidable downtime.
- Maintain a positive, respectful and accountable work environment while supporting team members during daily operations.
- Perform other production-related duties as required by the Production Supervisor or Plant Manager.
Required Skills and Experience
- Education: Secondary school completion is required.
- Experience: Must have at least two (2) years of experience in food manufacturing, beverage manufacturing, food processing or beverage processing. Must have at least two (2) years of experience with SOPs, GMPs, HACCP requirements, food safety procedures, sanitation procedures, product traceability requirements and workplace health and safety procedures.
- Technical Proficiency: Must have at least two (2) years of hands-on experience working on or around production lines, packaging lines, bottling lines, filling equipment, capping equipment, labelling equipment, conveyors, batch processing systems, tanks, pumps or similar manufacturing equipment. Must have at least two (2) years of hands-on experience with batch processing, production line operation, packaging, material staging, inventory verification, production documentation and production checklists.
- Leadership Skills: Ability to lead, guide and support production employees during daily operations is required. Reliability, punctuality, organization, ownership and a team-focused approach are required.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to read and follow production schedules, batch records, product specifications, work instructions, safety instructions and quality requirements is required. Ability to complete production paperwork and checklists accurately is required. Ability to identify and report equipment issues, quality concerns, material shortages, production delays and safety risks is required.
- Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment and manage multiple priorities during a shift is required.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills and ability to work with Production, Quality Assurance, Warehouse, Maintenance, Processing and Sanitation teams are required.
Training, Certifications and Knowledge
- Company-required GMP, food safety, health and safety, sanitation and quality training must be completed before working independently.
- WHMIS and workplace safety training must be completed as required by the company.
- Forklift, walkie, pump truck or pallet jack certification is required if the employee is assigned to operate material handling equipment.
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, allergen control, sanitation, lot code control, production documentation and traceability is required for the role.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the shift.
- Ability to lift, move, push or pull materials up to 50 lbs when required.
- Ability to bend, reach, climb steps and perform physical tasks related to production, processing and packaging operations.
- Work environment may include cold areas, wet floors, noise, moving equipment, forklifts, pallet movement and repetitive tasks.
- Required use of PPE, including safety shoes, hairnet, beard net if applicable, gloves, hearing protection and other protective equipment required by the facility.
