The Opportunity

Reliable greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data is essential to enable TC Energy to meet regulatory requirements and shareholder expectations. The GHG Emissions Analyst will play a crucial part in ensuring the corporate GHG data is reliable, consistent, and accurately represents our corporate emissions performance, while enabling strategic analysis and insights from the data.  

What you’ll do

Working within the Safety and Technical Services group and reporting to the Manager of Corporate Reporting and GHG Emissions Inventory, the GHG Emission Analyst will collaborate with various corporate functions and business unit emission compliance teams throughout Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. The GHG Emissions Analyst role will be responsible for compiling and aggregating data from multiple workstreams to ensure alignment with corporate and regulatory reporting governance and standards and supporting current and future climate-related data disclosures. Additionally, the successful candidate will provide strategic insights and analytics on the GHG emissions data and support the identification and implementation of data integrity and system process improvements.

  • Administer and maintain data management systems and data integrity processes including the implementation of governance and controls used for the storage, calculation and transformation of corporate Scope 1, Scope 2, Scope 3 GHG emissions and the underlying activity data.  
  • Actively participate in the development or enhancement of data management systems, identification of data gaps and opportunities to streamline, automate and improve the quality, reliability and accessibility to the emissions data.
  • Provide analysis and strategic insights on compiled GHG emissions data and operational activity data, to identify trends and anomalies.
  • Create visual representations and written summaries of data for internal and external communications.   
  • Coordinate multiple internal stakeholders for the compilation and quantification of corporate GHG emission operational activity data from all business units.
  • Review and validate incoming data to ensure complete, consistent and reliable data, in alignment with the corporate reporting governance.
  • Collaborate with operational teams for the review and third-party assurance of corporate emissions to support corporate disclosure of climate related metrics.
  • Support internal and external disclosures of climate-related metrics.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Data Science, Engineering, or Technical Diploma in a Data Science related field
  • 2-5 years of proven experience in the field of GHG emissions or data integrity and management
  • Strong computer and data management skills – experience with Microsoft software apps including: Excel, Word, Power Point, and Power BI

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience within organizations in the oil & gas sector, pipelines or power related operations
  • Previous experience and familiarity with GHG emissions and sustainability reporting frameworks and standards
  • Previous experience coordinating cross-functional project activities
  • Experience solving complex and unique technical data or GHG emissions related challenges
  • Experience with Power Query, Power Automate, Dataverse, SAP, SQL or AWS Quick Sight
  • Commitment to client service and support
