Internal Job Title: Database Administrator
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Position Summary

As a Database Administrator (DBA) in our Bahamas Service Delivery group, you will be responsible for designing, developing and deploying highly secure database solutions for our Bahamian government customers. In this position, you will provide ongoing support and tune and optimize their performance to ensure they remain highly available, reliable, and secure.

 

Responsibilities

  • Database Design and Implementation: Design, implement, and maintain database systems to meet organizational requirements. Collaborate with System Architects to plan DBMS capacity and hardware requirements.
  • Database Deployment: Install and configure the production system locally in advance of shipment to customer site. Train and support Developers and Local Service Providers (LSPs).
  • Database Migration: Define database migration strategy and design replication topology and methodology. Develop migration procedures/scripts and perform the migration.
  • Performance Monitoring and Tuning: Monitor database performance, identify issues, and optimize database performance.
  • Security Management: Ensure database security by implementing access controls, encryption, and other security measures.
  • Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement backup and recovery plans to protect data integrity.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Provide support for database-related issues, including troubleshooting and resolving problems.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain documentation for database configurations, schemas, changes, processes, and procedures.
  • Various other Duties and Responsibilities

 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology (or a related field) or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience.
  • Certifications: Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or similar certifications are assets.
  • Knowledge: Database management principles, data modeling, SQL, database security practices, database tuning and optimization, database backup and recovery.
  • Experience: 4-7 years of experience in database administration.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Competencies: Organizational skills, adaptability, and a proactive approach to identifying and solving issues.

 

Technical Environment

  • Operating Systems: Linux, Windows Server
  • Database Management Systems: Oracle, PostgreSQL, NoSQL (Elasticsearch)
  • Virtualization: VMware
  • Containerization/Orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes
  • Deployment/Configuration: Puppet, Terraform, Ansible, Bicep, Helmchart
  • SQL and Scripting: SQL, Python, PowerShell, Bash, Ruby
  • Security: Active Directory, Kerberos, LDAP, TLS, Bitlocker, LUKS
  • Cloud Platforms: AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database
  • Tools: Git, tcpdump, Wireshark, PowerCLI, Sysinternals Suite, BIRT

 

Mandatory Requirements

  • Language(s): Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Work Hours: Ability to work on-call rotation (evenings, weekends)
  • Travel: Ability to travel internationally (passport required) approx. 2 weeks/year
