Vocational Rehab Specialist
The Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist, reporting to the Vocational Team Lead, National VR (CTL), will be working in a multi-disciplinary setting where you would perform assessment to identify vocational, psychosocial, physical and/or mental health barriers to return to work and potential rehabilitation services that may assist in safe and expedited return to work.
This is a hybrid role and will require you to work in-person 1-2 times per week
Take an inside look at what you’ll do each day
- Responsible for the proactive management of disability claims through an evaluation of medical and functional information and job duties
- Assess and evaluate treatment or service needs and potential on an ongoing basis through in-depth personal interviews, review of medical conditions and functional abilities.
- Understand the specifics of an employer’s wellbeing platform and the ability to speak comprehensively to an employee about their employers’ offerings and wellbeing supports.
- Provide proactive communication to clients to keep them apprised of claim status updates and claim progression ensuring service standards are met.
- Utilize available resources to assess diagnosis and treatment plans. Where appropriate liaise in a professional manner with insurance agencies, doctors, employees, management, lawyers…etc., ensuring that only allowable information is released to recognized recipients
- Implement return-to-work programs and negotiate with the employer.
- Evaluate health care coordination programs and rehabilitation programs to ensure they have positive effects.
- Assess the potential for accommodations and coordinate recommendations between the treatment provider, employee, and employer.
- Excellent ability to follow through on and monitor plans; being organized
- Commitment to ongoing and timely communication with all stakeholders
What you need to be successful
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate or Master’s degree in related discipline to providing client services to people with disabilities
- Familiarity with current methods of disability case management, vocational rehabilitation and return to work planning
- Experience in assessing complex client needs in specialized areas such as physical limitations, cognitive, social and emotional barriers
- You preferably have experience or training in one of the following areas: disability insurance, life and health insurance or human resources;
- Great communicator with authentic care and empathy touch
- Resilient and able to handle and overcome difficult and stressful situations
- Working towards or holding a relevant professional designations and/or certifications (i.e. Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP), or equivalent RCCS, RVP, Return to Work Disability Management (RTWDM)) and/or Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) considered an asset
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to easily establish rapport with clients is a must.
- Candidates who are bilingual and can communicate (reading/writing/speaking) fluently in French and English will be asset.
- You have strong interpersonal skills and excellent listening skills.
- You have strong planning, organizational and multi-tasking skills and are able to work with different priorities and timelines.
- You are solution-oriented and known to be a decision-maker.
- You have excellent communication skills and an interest in customer service;
- Analytical and detail oriented, especially with complex claims and contracts
- Proactive and innovative
